UICA Outside expands the Urban Institute for Contemporary Art’s impact city-wide and connects visitors to the vibrant neighborhoods that surround downtown Grand Rapids during ArtPrize 10. Featuring three public projects in three different neighborhoods, UICA Outside draws together diverse artists, property owners, and GRR stakeholders to create artworks that are exciting and accessible to all. Each neighborhood features large-scale works created by artists who reside and engage within their respective community or who have designed artworks with neighborhood input. These public works activate what were once quiet and overlooked areas into powerful reflections of our neighbors, and create welcoming corridors and gathering places. Join Caroline Cook as she “walks and talks” with you while you explore the Baxter neighborhood and a large-scale mural. Learn and burn!
Members of UICA tickets are $7.50, public is $10.00 and children ages 18 and under are free.

Allow a guide to efficiently and expertly guide you though the exhilarating maze of popular and critically acclaimed downtown ArtPrize entries. Are you surprised that there are ghosts on Heritage Hill? Don’t be. The stately homes of Heritage Hill may reflect the grace of another era, but because most of these Victorian dwellings were built in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, ghost stories abound. Some of the accounts are scary, some silly, some believable, some not. We will explore this beautiful neighborhood, while Caroline tells spooky tales that have been passed on to us by either present or once-occupants of the houses.
